When considering the best teeth whitening products, consider first of all that doing so may even provide a bit of diversion once one realizes how nice a pearly white smile can be. For a fact, a smile says a great deal about a person, so the idea of displaying a nice, white-teeth-filled smile usually makes a great first impression. Ideally, most people should strive for this, to be honest.

Consider, for a moment, how a person heading to the job interview might look if he or she showed up with dirty hair, clothes and unshined shoes. Chances are, the interview wouldn't last very long, so why would someone chance showing up for an interview displaying a set of teeth darkened by coffee, tobacco or cavities? There really seems to be no good reason to do so, it must be said.

That's why considering for a few minutes just which whitening products or services are best can at least help guide one towards selection of a process, product or procedure that can work most effectively for an individual and his or her specific circumstance. Most of the best whitening products fall into several general categories, usually.

The first -- and most ubiquitous -- are the teeth whitening toothpastes, almost all of which are sold over-the-counter. The best of these toothpastes have started including peroxide in their formulations, as a matter of fact. Most such toothpastes work through a system of peroxide application and very light abrasion. In other words peroxide is oxidizing while the abrasive paste is scrubbing away.

Dental experts remain divided on the ultimate effectiveness of such toothpastes, though studies have shown that consistent use of them delivers at least a minor level of whitening. Two other types of teeth whitening that are available in over-the-counter forms include home-based teeth whitening systems that have as their base constituent the same peroxide found in toothpaste, but at a higher level.

A number of the manufacturers of these products have been working hard to perfect them since at least 1989. There are two categories, with the first consisting of a tray-based whitening system and the other being the new-style whitening strips that are applied to the surface of the teeth and which are now the single most popular system available. Always read up on either system, though, before making use of it.

The best teeth whitening products, then, are those that deliver the desired level of whitening. In general, toothpastes are the least effective (though they will deliver at least minimal levels of whitening is used consistently) and tray-based systems are the most, with bleaching strips falling somewhere to the right of the middle of the spectrum.
